WHAT TERRIFIES YOU IN BUSINESS?

Doing videos? Hosting webinars? Speaking from the stage?

Well, what if I told you that the very thing you’re most afraid of is exactly the thing you should be doing? (Stay with me, here!)

I’m a big believer that your business is the best vehicle for personal growth and the only way to grow is to stretch outside of your comfort zone and do things that you are scared to do.

Looking back on my own experiences, I’ve realized that the things that scared me most were usually the things that were the most critical to do to grow my business.

Fear is a useful emotion not because it tells you to run away screaming, but because it tells you that you’re on the edge of something big.

In this week’s article, we’re moving away from the nuts-and-bolts how tos of business and into a little deeper (and, yes, scarier) place to talk frankly about the fears that hold us back.

Don’t be afraid to click here and dive in — it’s good stuff and it will change the way you think about your fears in business!

IDENTIFY THE ROOT OF YOUR FEARS

Seeing your fear for what it is, lessens the power it has over you. Fears can take on many forms, but the most common roots are typically the same: fear of failure, fear of success, and perfectionism (i.e. fear of not being good enough).

Example: Fear of public speaking could actually be perfectionism in overdrive.

WRITE YOUR FEAR UNDER THE CATEGORY THAT BEST FITS IT’S “ROOT”.

FEAR BECOMES FUEL

You’ve identified the root of your main fears. Great job! That’s the first step in conquering them. Now it’s time to turn these fears into fuel for your business. Remember your biggest successes do not live in the land of safe and easy.

Take the first leap outside your comfort zone and into major business (and personal) growth! Use the strategies below to map out concrete action steps to overcoming your most prominent fear. Commit to taking action on this and map out the 3 biggest steps. Once you’ve overcome this fear, use these strategies again and again to conquer as many fears as you can.

  1. The Band-Aid Strategy. What is the fastest way to just do what you are afraid to do without over thinking it?
  2. Have Someone Hold Your Hand. Who can you reach out to support or coach you through the process?
  3. Calculate Your Courage. Confidence is Bred by Competence. How can you educate yourself, and build the skills that you need to encourage yourself to take the leap?

Keep yourself accountable by setting deadlines.
